This gown DOES NOT COME with a built in petticoat. Photos showcase it styled with a long petticoat and without it. We are working on developing a long petticoat, but for now you will need to purchase elsewhere to get a full skirt effect/look.

This mourning gown is inspired by the dress Ellen Hutter wears to the funeral of her dearest friend, Anna Harding, in Focus Features’ new adaptation NOSFERATU. Rendered in a luxuriously thick, drapey satin of deepest black, it captures Ellen’s grief as Count Orlok’s shadow falls over everyone she loves. The neckline is delicately trimmed with a cluny lace in a triangle pattern, a whisper of ornament against an otherwise solemn silhouette.

In the early Victorian era, mourning dress was its own language of devotion, and this gown speaks it beautifully. The bodice is shirred front and back, shaped by positioned bands over the bust and underbust and a wide band at the waist that is sewn into the garment at the back. The sleeves are tiered with pintucks and swell into a voluminous, drapey bubble at the elbow before narrowing into a slimmer cuff that leaves the wrist just slightly exposed: restraint with a hint of something more.

Our take is softer and more fluid than the version seen on screen, a modern twist that lets the satin drape and move with you. For a fuller, more period silhouette, pair it with a crinoline petticoat for added volume. The full-length gown has deep pleats and side pockets, is made of 100% polyester, and closes with a center back YKK bridal zipper.
